Opened on November 23, 1904, as part of the Interborough Rapid Transit Company's extension north to 145th Street (IRT Lenox Avenue Line) via Lenox Avenue, branching off from the original line north of 96th Street; the White Plains Road Line opened three days later.
This station is one of several along the Lenox Avenue Line that were fully renovated in 1998 to repair water damage. Like other stations along the line, it has extensive mosaics featuring Harlem history and famous African-Americans. The same year, the MTA installed a mosaic, Message from Malcolm, by Maren Hassinger.
Central Park North – 110th Street has two tracks and an island platform, with southbound trains using track 2 and northbound trains using track 3. Fare control is at the south end of the station at platform level. There is also a high-exit turnstile in the center of the station.
